Mythos serves Greek food in South Africa, with a menu built around meze, pita, souvlaki, seafood and flame-grilled meat. It suits both a quick individual meal and a long shared lunch because diners can order one complete main or build the table from several small plates.
Prices in this guide were reviewed on 28 September 2026 against the current Mythos South Africa menu and the Illovo and Rosebank delivery listing. Meze starts around R65, filled pita meals cost R125 to R169, many mains sit between R159 and R315, and the largest premium meat dishes reach R429. Branch and delivery prices may differ.

The old version of this page used an older price list and gave very little context. This revision explains portion counts, dish structure and branch variation so that a diner can compare real meals rather than isolated numbers.
How the Mythos menu works
Meze are small plates intended for sharing. One meze is generally a starter; three or four can form a light meal for two. Pita meals wrap a filling with salad and sauce and usually include chips. Souvlaki mains use grilled skewers and add pita, tzatziki, salad and chips.
Traditional mains such as moussaka, pastitsio and kleftiko are complete plated meals. Steaks and chops are larger and more expensive. Understanding those formats prevents an unfair comparison between a R69 chicken skewer and a R189 chicken souvlaki main with accompaniments.
Seafood meze prices
| Seafood meze | Price |
|---|---|
| Sardines, 2 | R79 |
| Mussels | R99 |
| Calamari | R115 |
| Squid heads | R115 |
| Prawn kataifi, 4 | R135 |
| Medium prawns, 6 | R155 |
| Prawn saganaki, 6 | R185 |
| Oysters, half dozen | R249 |
| Single oyster | R49 |
Two grilled sardines at R79 are the lowest priced seafood plate. Mussels cost R99 and come in a creamy onion and garlic sauce with cider, leeks, parsley and pita. Calamari and squid heads are R115, with a choice of grilled lemon butter or crumbed and fried preparation.
Prawn kataifi costs R135 for four prawns wrapped in pastry with mild peri-peri mayonnaise. Six medium grilled prawns cost R155, while prawn saganaki is R185 for six prawns cooked with tomato, feta, herbs and ouzo.
A half dozen oysters cost R249, or individual oysters are R49 when available. Six individually ordered oysters would be R294, so the half-dozen saves R45. Availability can change because oysters and some seafood are marked as subject to supply.
Seafood meze is easy to share but brings shellfish and fish allergens. Mussel sauce and lemon butter contain dairy, kataifi contains wheat, and several sauces may contain egg. Ask about shared grills and fryers for a serious allergy.
Meat meze and skewers
| Meat meze | Price |
|---|---|
| Chicken souvlaki skewer | R69 |
| Keftethes meatballs | R89 |
| Lamb souvlaki skewer | R95 |
| Soutzoukakia meatballs | R95 |
| Crispy pork chops, 2 x 100 g | R95 |
| Biftekia, 2 patties | R99 |
| Chicken livers | R99 |
| Beef fillet souvlaki skewer | R119 |
| Beef strips | R125 |
| Crispy lamb chops, 3 x 50 g | R139 |
A single chicken skewer is R69, lamb R95 and beef fillet R119. These are useful additions to a shared table or salad. They are smaller than the souvlaki mains, which include several accompaniments and cost more.
Keftethes are traditional meatballs at R89. Soutzoukakia cost R95 and come in tomato salsa. Biftekia are two beef mince patties topped with feta for R99. Chicken livers are also R99 with creamy peri-peri sauce and pita.
Three thin lamb chops cost R139, while two thin pork chops cost R95. The listed weights make the difference clearer: the lamb portion is three 50 g pieces and the pork portion two 100 g pieces. Bone and cooking loss affect the edible amount.
Vegetarian meze and sharing choices
Deep-fried Kalamata olives cost R65 and zucchini fries R69. Feta wrapped in kataifi pastry costs R89 and comes with honey and sesame. Other familiar Greek choices can include hummus, tzatziki, taramasalata, brinjal and pita, depending on branch availability.
A vegetarian sharing start could combine olives at R65, zucchini fries at R69 and feta kataifi at R89. The total is R223 before drinks or fees. For three diners, that is roughly R74 each and gives three different textures.
Vegetarian does not automatically mean vegan. Feta, tzatziki, butter, mayonnaise and honey appear across this section. Fried vegetables can share oil with meat or seafood. Ask the branch for ingredient and preparation details when strict avoidance matters.
Salad prices
| Salad | Price |
|---|---|
| Village Greek | R119 |
| Beetroot and feta | R135 |
| Chicken salad | R149 |
| Halloumi salad | R155 |
| Smoked salmon salad | R229 |
The Village Greek salad is R119 with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, green pepper, feta and Kalamata olives. Beetroot and feta is R135 and includes walnuts with honey dressing. Chicken salad is R149, and halloumi salad R155 with avocado and creamy dressing.
Smoked salmon salad costs R229, a R110 premium over the basic Greek salad. It adds salmon, avocado, capers and a creamy feta and honey dressing. That can serve as a main meal, whereas a Village Greek salad is easier to use as a table side.
Salads can still contain major allergens. Feta and halloumi contain dairy, walnuts are tree nuts, and creamy dressings may contain egg. Ask for dressing on the side if you want control over richness or if the salad will travel.
Pita meal prices
| Filled pita | Price |
|---|---|
| Falafel | R125 |
| Halloumi | R135 |
| Chicken | R139 |
| Beef | R149 |
| Falafel and halloumi | R155 |
| Beef and feta | R159 |
| Chicken and halloumi | R159 |
| Lamb | R159 |
| Calamari | R169 |
Filled pita is one of the simplest complete meals at Mythos. Meat versions include tzatziki, tomato and onion, while falafel uses hummus. Fresh-cut chips are served on the side.
Falafel at R125 is the lowest priced pita, followed by halloumi at R135 and chicken at R139. Beef is R149. Adding halloumi to falafel or chicken moves the price to R155 or R159.
Lamb costs R159 and calamari R169. The difference across the whole section is only R44, so preference and dietary needs matter more than price. The Three Greeks mini-pita plate, combining beef, chicken and halloumi, is R165 and provides variety in one order.
Traditional Greek main meals
| Traditional main | Price |
|---|---|
| Pastitsio | R159 |
| Moussaka | R169 |
| Kleftiko lamb shank | R369 |
Pastitsio costs R159 and layers macaroni, beef mince and cheese beneath bechamel. Moussaka is R169 with brinjal, potato, beef mince and bechamel. Both come with Village Greek salad and provide a complete plated meal.
Kleftiko is R369. The lamb shank is slow-roasted on the bone and served with Greek-style oven potatoes. It costs more than twice the pastitsio because of the large lamb cut and long cooking time.
Pastitsio and moussaka contain gluten, dairy and beef. Kleftiko has a bone and the listed serving is not directly comparable by weight. For classic comfort food at a controlled price, the baked dishes are the most straightforward options.
Chicken mains
| Chicken main | Price |
|---|---|
| Grilled chicken breasts | R145 |
| Chicken burger | R159 |
| Kota Mythos | R185 |
Grilled chicken breasts cost R145 with oregano and olive-oil basting plus Greek salad. The chicken burger is R159 with peri-peri chicken, tomato, onion, rocket and yoghurt, served with chips.
Kota Mythos costs R185. It tops chicken breasts with mushroom sauce, feta and olives and includes roasted potatoes. It is the richest of the three and costs R40 more than the plain grilled chicken.
Beef, steak and chop prices
| Meat main | Price |
|---|---|
| Bifteki burger | R169 |
| Biftekia, 3 patties | R175 |
| Lamb chops, 3 x 50 g | R185 |
| Rump, 200 g | R189 |
| Pork chops, 4 x 100 g | R209 |
| Rump, 300 g | R249 |
| Lamb chops, 6 x 50 g | R309 |
| Beef fillet, 300 g | R339 |
| Filetto Mythos, 300 g | R369 |
| Beef tomahawk, 600 g | R429 |
The Bifteki burger is R169 with a 200 g beef patty, onion, Emmental, tomato salsa and tzatziki plus chips. Three biftekia patties are R175 with feta and chips. These are the lower-cost beef mains.
A 200 g rump costs R189 and a 300 g rump R249. The extra 100 g adds R60. A 300 g fillet is R339, reflecting the premium for tenderness. Filetto Mythos costs R369 and adds olives, feta and mushroom sauce.
The 600 g tomahawk is R429 and includes chips. Its bone contributes to the raw weight, so it is not 600 g of edible beef. The larger six-piece lamb chop serving is R309, while the three-piece serving is R185.
Four 100 g pork chops cost R209, a relatively low amount for the listed raw weight. Diners who avoid pork should note that pork appears elsewhere in the menu and may share grill equipment.
Souvlaki main prices
| Souvlaki main | Price |
|---|---|
| Halloumi | R179 |
| Chicken | R189 |
| Lamb | R235 |
| Beef fillet | R249 |
Souvlaki mains include grilled skewers, tzatziki, salad, pita and chips. This full plate is why chicken souvlaki at R189 costs much more than a single R69 chicken skewer from the meze section.
Halloumi costs R179, chicken R189, lamb R235 and beef fillet R249. The beef version is R60 more than chicken. For a complete Greek-style meal with several accompaniments, the chicken and halloumi choices sit below R200.
Pasta prices
| Pasta | Price |
|---|---|
| Greek bolognese | R159 |
| Chicken pasta | R169 |
| Garida prawn linguine | R259 |
| Beef fillet pasta | R269 |
Greek bolognese is R159 with beef mince, tomato, herbs, spaghetti and Parmesan. Chicken pasta costs R169 in a mild creamy sauce. These two options are close to the baked Greek mains in price.
Garida linguine is R259 with prawns, white wine, garlic, cream, chilli and rocket. Beef fillet pasta is R269 with 150 g beef strips in a light tomato sauce. Premium protein adds about R100 over bolognese.
Combination meal prices
| Combination | Price |
|---|---|
| Calamari and hake | R239 |
| Prawns and calamari | R259 |
| Half baby chicken and 5 prawns | R269 |
| 200 g rump and 5 prawns | R315 |
Combination meals serve diners who do not want to choose one protein. Calamari and hake is R239, and five prawns with calamari cost R259. Both include chips.
Half a baby chicken with five prawns costs R269. The steak-and-prawn combination is R315. It includes a 200 g rump, five medium prawns, lemon butter and chips.
The combo price can be better than ordering a full steak and separate prawn meze, but portions are designed as one meal. Shellfish allergies and shared grill handling require direct confirmation.
Sides and extras
| Side | Price |
|---|---|
| Pita bread | R22 |
| Rice | R36 |
| Plain chips | R42 |
| Oven-roasted potatoes | R42 |
| Greek-style chips with feta | R49 |
| Seasonal vegetables | R49 |
| Creamed spinach | R55 |
| Village Greek side salad | R59 |
Many mains already include chips, potatoes, salad or pita. Read the description before adding sides. Pita and rice are useful with saucy meze, while a side salad balances a meat-heavy plate.
Two sides can add R84 to R118 to the bill. For a group, one salad and one potato side are often more useful than ordering the same extra for every diner.
Coffee and cold drinks
| Drink | Price |
|---|---|
| Five Roses tea | R27 |
| Rooibos tea | R28 |
| Single espresso | R29 |
| Frappe | R30 |
| Americano | R30 |
| Freddo espresso | R34 |
| Greek coffee, single | R35 |
| Soda | R36 |
| Cappuccino | R39 |
| Cafe latte or hot chocolate | R40 |
| Freddo cappuccino | R49 |
| 750 ml mineral water | R55 |
Tea and basic coffee begin below R30, and sodas are R36. Two cappuccinos add R78, while two large waters add R110. Drinks can materially change a group bill even when each amount looks small.
Kids menu
Chicken souvlaki with chips and crumbed chicken strips with chips each cost R69. Greek spaghetti bolognese is R75. A mini chicken, beef or halloumi pita with chips is also R75. Vanilla ice cream with sweets costs R55.
A child’s R69 main plus R55 ice cream totals R124 before a drink. Two children ordering that combination add R248 to the family’s food bill. Portion sizes are designed for children, so older teenagers may prefer a filled pita or adult main.
What two people might spend
A low-cost shared meal could combine zucchini fries at R69, one chicken pita at R139, one falafel pita at R125 and two sodas at R36. The subtotal is R405 before service or delivery fees.
A traditional dinner could include mussels at R99, pastitsio at R159, moussaka at R169 and two cappuccinos at R39. That comes to R505.
A grill dinner could use feta kataifi at R89, 200 g rump at R189, chicken souvlaki at R189 and two Greek side salads at R59. The subtotal is R585.
A premium order with prawn saganaki at R185, Filetto Mythos at R369 and prawn linguine at R259 reaches R813 before drinks. Adding two large waters produces a R923 total.
A practical planning range is R200 to R350 per adult for one main and a share of meze. Large steak, lamb shank, seafood, multiple drinks and dessert can push spending beyond that range.
How to order meze for a group
For four adults, begin with four to six meze rather than one small plate per person. A balanced example is zucchini fries at R69, feta kataifi at R89, keftethes at R89, calamari at R115 and six prawns at R155. The five plates total R517.
Add pita bread and one Greek salad if the table wants more starch and vegetables. Two pita orders and one side salad add R103, bringing the shared start to R620. Diners can then decide whether they still need full mains.
Mixed platters and meze work best when the group discusses pork, shellfish and allergies first. Separate vegetarian plates from meat and seafood, and ask for dedicated serving utensils where cross-contact is a concern.
Vegetarian and vegan planning
Vegetarian diners have several substantial choices: falafel pita, halloumi pita, Greek salad, halloumi salad, vegetable meze and sides. A falafel pita with chips at R125 is one of the least expensive complete meals.
A vegetarian sharing meal for two could combine feta kataifi at R89, zucchini fries at R69, a Greek salad at R119 and falafel pita at R125. The total is R402 before drinks.
Vegan diners need more confirmation. Falafel with hummus may be suitable, but sauces, pita recipes and shared fryers must be checked. Honey, feta, yoghurt, butter and creamy dressing are common across the menu.
Allergens and dietary questions
Common allergens include gluten in pita and pastry, dairy in feta and tzatziki, sesame in some dishes, nuts in salads, and shellfish in prawns, oysters and mussels. Sauces may add egg, dairy or alcohol.
Menu descriptions cannot list every ingredient or all shared equipment. Tell staff the exact allergen, ask whether the recipe contains it and ask how the dish is prepared. Choose another meal if safe handling cannot be confirmed.
Raw weights may be used for meat, and bones remain in lamb shank, chops and tomahawk. A listed weight therefore does not equal the amount eaten after cooking.
Branch and delivery differences
Mythos operates more than one South African restaurant. Branch menus, specials, hours and prices can differ. The Illovo and Rosebank delivery listing can also show a different amount from the national dine-in menu.
Delivery platforms can add service, delivery and small-order charges. Promotions can reduce the basket, while a platform markup can raise individual item prices. The checkout screen for the selected address is the final delivery total.
Grilled meat, chips and fried meze lose heat and crispness during travel. Saucy dishes such as moussaka, pastitsio and pasta generally travel more predictably. Collection shortens the journey when texture matters.
Choosing between similar dishes
Several names appear in more than one section. Biftekia can mean a small two-patty meze or a three-patty main with chips. Souvlaki can mean one skewer for the table or a plated meal with tzatziki, salad, pita and chips. Calamari appears as meze, inside a pita and in seafood combinations. Check the section and accompaniments before comparing the price.
For the most food below R200, a filled pita, pastitsio, moussaka, grilled chicken or chicken souvlaki main is easier to judge than several separate meze. For variety, choose one vegetable plate, one meat plate and one seafood plate, then add pita. This gives contrasting flavours without ordering three dishes that all contain fried food or creamy sauce.
When two people want different levels of spice, use plain grilled items as the base and keep peri-peri or chilli sauce separate. When one person avoids dairy, remember that feta, tzatziki, halloumi, bechamel and creamy dressings appear throughout the menu. The simplest description is usually easier for staff to adapt, but any change should be confirmed before the order is placed.

Final ordering advice
Use meze when the group wants to taste several dishes, and use a filled pita or traditional main when each person wants a clear individual meal. Compare full dish descriptions because a single skewer and a souvlaki main are different portions even though they share a name.
For a controlled budget, chicken or falafel pita, pastitsio, moussaka and grilled chicken offer complete meals below R170. Lamb shank, fillet, tomahawk and seafood combinations suit a larger budget. Check included sides before adding more.
These prices give a current South African reference. Confirm the exact branch, service type, availability and checkout total on the day of the visit or order.
